I was walking near a hotel in city hall but i saw this scene and i decided to take a photo of it.i realised that it is convenient now to be able to take photos at an moment as everyone has a smart phone. At the same time it is a tool that does more than taking photos and making calls. It allows people to entertain themselves and also execute important task like bank transfers. With the smart phone, it seems to ask aid creativity as it can allow people to create on the go. Whether its a photo, video or even a quick sketch.

elizabeth gilbert ted talk

she talks about getting famous after her book become best seller and the fear that comes with it. the fear of not being able to meet up with the expectations of others and herself because of the present success. we need to separate our anxiety of not knowing the future of creative career with the process of creating works. she speaks of the genius not being the creative individual but being a separate intangible entity. in that way, if the creative individual does not exceed his or her previous achievements, responsibility does not lie on her alone. i agree with what she is saying to a great extent. creative ideas do not come when we want them to come. ideas do not come into our heads on a daily basis. to be honest, i feel one photo a day assignment is forcing us to be "creative". i really feel that i have to come up with something for that day even if i have totally nothing to say and it feels kind of depressing. i am pressured to be creative when creativity is not a consistent thing that happens on a daily basis.

I thought that a cockroach trap would solve my cockroach problem but instead it caught two lizards. I bought the cockroach trap for two dollars thinking it was such a creative invention but i din realised it was a very cruel invention. One of the lizards was still alive as it was stuck to the adhesive. The other was dead and i assumed while it was struggling to get out, it tore its tail. I dont think i m ever using such a trap again.

I feel that empty spaces are very good to places to practice creativity as they do not serve to provide any specific functions. It can be used in a variety if ways like using it as a play area or maybe a public function space.

I saw a really interesting photo book in the book store. The photographer took photos of her dog and the breakfast she was having. The end result was really entertaining as the dog had different expressions in each photos and the variety of compositions which the photographer used. The idea was really simple but yet very intriguing as well.

The fountain of wealth at the suntec city is a result of someone's creativity. However, this creativity could have been inspired by some objects in life. The structure resembles a four legged bronze incense burner that is used for worship at temples. It is believed that burning incense would allow their wishes and hopes would be heard by the gods in heaven as the thoughts of the devotees would follow the incense smoke up to the heavens. The designer probably based the design of the fountain on this object of worship. In the photos, you can see people at the centre of the fountain making wishes as they touch the water that comes out of the fountain.

I think children are usually seen as being more creative than adults because they have not yet learnt the restrictions that are placed upon them when they grow up. It's ok for them to act out of logic as they are children and it is acceptable for them to act as such. The works i seen at the library showcase points our their craziness when they do these pieces of work.

It is interesting that they cam decorate the garlic in such a way that it would appeal to people buying it for good luck during chinese new year. Using red as the auspious color, makes it more relevant to the chinese new year spirit.

I found a tire rim just lying on the concrete pavement and i wondered how it got there. The black round shape of the rim stood out against the clean concrete surface of the pavement. Could the tire rim have rolled of the wheel of a passing car?seems highly unlikely. But the rim doesnt seemed damaged.

Tim Brown TED TALK

We are afraid of being judged by the people around us while sharing our ideas. Creative companies should foster a good environment to take risk and to play as it breeds creativity. The environments should simulate a playground as it would encourage play. Playfulness can help us work better as it makes us feel better while we do our work. It can allow us to think of new role an object can take on rather than its commonly perceived uses. Play shocks people out of their normal way of thinking to look at things from a different perspective. Adult behaviours restrict creativity as such behaviours suppress experimentation and games. Stopping at the first solution would not allow us to achieve other more interesting results. Playful building allows something to be quickly made into a tangible object allowing more room for visualising possible improvements, rather than just discussing with words. Role playing lets us act out the experience while we better design a service. It allows us to be in another person’s shoes, empathising with the experiences. We need to play by the rules and there must be a transition between play and work. Divergence require more play while convergence require more serious work.
